Web Engineer - Perl

The incumbent will work in a team environment supporting the design, development, and maintenance of federal Internet and Intranet Web sites.
 
1. Design and Develop Perl Applications to enhance and support the federal web based system.
 
The system is designed with the Mysql database in the back-end and the Perl language (5.8.8) used to develop the front-end as well as several other administrative tasks associated with the application.
 
- Specific Perl language skills heavily used:
 
 a) Expertise in using complex perl data structures like arrays of hash references which in turn can hold further complex data structures.
 
b) Developing xml middle layer programming code which will use the existing data structures of the census taker system and output xml to be used by other programs.
 
c) Mod perl usage and configuration to work with the Apache Webserver.
 
d) Perl Module management using CPAN and CPANPLUS.
 
e) Strong experience working with Perl DBI and DBD modules to interact with the Mysql database.
 
2. In-depth knowledge of configuring and optimizing the Apache Web server.
